Audio to text
Turn an MP3, M4A, WAV or MP4 recording into editable text. Upload a file, check the words and take the transcript or subtitles.
Original transcription up to 5 minutes is free. Longer files use your transcription minutes.
Your recording in. Useful words out.
Audio to text starts with the recording already on your device. Bring a voice memo, interview, podcast or recorded lesson; there is no need to publish the file on a social platform first. The transcript follows the spoken audio, not text shown in the video picture.
- One upload, three useful formats
- Use TXT for reading, notes or a script. Choose SRT for timed subtitles, or VTT for web captions. All three exports use the same words you reviewed, so you do not have to transcribe the recording again for a different file format.
- Start with a short recording
- Files up to five minutes are free without an account. Longer files need sign-in and use your time-pack balance only after you choose to start. The current upload limit is 50 MB, with a maximum recording length of two hours.
How to convert audio to text
Choose your file
Select one MP3, M4A, WAV or MP4 from your device. The service checks the media and reads its actual duration before transcription.
Read and correct the transcript
Check names, numbers and punctuation in the sentence list. Text corrections keep the existing start and end times unchanged.
Take the text or subtitles
Copy the transcript or download TXT, SRT or VTT. Paid accounts can also translate the subtitles into a chosen language without using transcription minutes.
Before you start
Can I use MP3 to text for a podcast or interview?
Yes. Upload a supported recording within the file and duration limits. Audio to text produces the spoken transcript; it does not currently identify individual speakers or create a summary.
Does M4A to text work with phone recordings?
M4A is supported alongside MP3, WAV and MP4. A file extension alone cannot guarantee that its audio can be decoded. If a file is rejected, no transcription starts.
Is audio transcription free?
Every recording up to five minutes is free, including for users with a paid balance. Longer recordings use one credit per started minute of their full duration. Buying any time pack also unlocks unlimited subtitle translations, without spending transcription minutes.
Can this transcribe live speech or read text in pictures?
This audio to text tool works with an existing file. It does not record your microphone, read on-screen text or add visible captions to a video.
